As I reflect on this year, I feel overwhelmed with gratitude for the blessings I have. For me, completing 2021 was also successfully completing 10 years of being a freelance artist, working for myself, being my own boss, and somehow paying my bills by doing art. As I write it, I realize that it’s a massive accomplishment and I feel so proud of myself. In 2011 when I quit my design job, I had no idea what the next 10 years would look like and TBH I NEVER thought I’d be traveling the world painting, and spreading love. In 2013 I painted my first mural, and with that, decided that painting murals was all I wanted to do, and began focusing all my energy on getting walls. I learned how to use spray paint, and shifted my design skills into the creation of my art and my brand. This year I painted with @thebushwickcollective. This is a massive honor, was a bucket list accomplishment I had dreamed of doing so since 2013 when I first hit them up. (So if you’re just starting out, remember it took me 7 years to reach that goal!) This year I made so many new friends, worked with so many wonderful clients, old and new, and travelled as far as Italy and Hawaii to paint walls. 2021 also brought a massive change to my digital art career as NFTs have taken over the world and I’ve embraced the future and have enjoyed learning and growing in this space. Most importantly, I feel so honored and thankful that so many people around the world have invited me to make my mark and leave my message on their property. It is such a huge privilege for me to spread color, love and positivity wherever I can, and so I made this grid myself to show off the top 8 things I’ve painted this year. Yes, I spend alot of time on the computer, and iPad and designing / illustrating. But it’s painting that has shaped my career and brand, and so I wanted to highlight that with this post. SO here is my art vs artist post, which I made myself. It’s not based on engagement or likes, it’s a selection of things I did this year that have meaning to me and my journey.
