Feeling so grateful to the POWWOW Worcester crew for bringing me into such a positive and welcoming family. I keep reflecting on the week, the camaraderie, the love, and the excited energy that you feel in the entire city during Powwow. I am so blessed to be part of this family, and what I love most is that this is so much more than painting on walls. It’s about bringing communities together to find common ground, invigorate neighborhoods, add color, life and joy to schools and put smiles on peoples faces. My wall has a lot of story behind it, including the introduction of ANYONE, they little dripping character flying around. But as I was working on my piece, the owners of the building at different points, each told me what they thought the characters meant to them, and how they related to the wall. They were writing their own story about my design, making it personal for them. And that’s the power of art. Everyone get’s to participate in the way that suits them, everyone gets to write their own story, and we just provide some illustrations … These photos were taken by @lannycatcheswalls, who documented the entire POWWOW experience. Lanny has always been so loving and welcoming to me, making me feel comfortable, confident and special with her camera and her constant smiles. Thanks Lanny! And thanks to all the @powwowworcester family, I literally have tears in my eyes writing this, I love you all and miss you. Until next time!
