“THE ONGOING BATTLE…” my mural for the @bushwickcollective, finished live at the block party today! It was such a huge honor painting this week amongst so many legends, and to be a part of the Bushwick Collective. I’ve wanted to paint with BC for years and feel so blessed with this opportunity. Thanks Joe, much love! This piece is a demonstration of respect for the fact that there is opposition in all things. My work is always filled with positivity, love and light, but I want to stop and remind us all that without darkness, we would not be able to comprehend the light. Without storm clouds, there would be no rainbows. And without sorrow, we would not understand joy… My piece is meant to highlight this balance, but in a nature true to life, which can be deceiving. While darkness, negativity and evil are always present, we can’t always decipher them. They are not always clear. Sometimes evil is masked with beauty, and hate is hidden behind love. So I made the smile sinister, and the skull filled with color, as in this exploration, we don’t always know what is what… At the end of the day however, love and color will prevail, but in the meantime, we continue to fight our best fight, and the ongoing battle continues… I have been digging into my past, re-introducing elements from my own dark corners, and bringing some dimension and style evolution into it. Annnnd you can see ANYONE reaching out from the darkness… the mouth seeks help from a love potion and the heart is literally bleeding color. I’m super proud of this piece, and I hope you love it! —— Much love to @thebushwickcollective - this wall was painted with LOVE and @montanacans / @montanacans_usa
