March 2013. SXSW. Austin TX. Client: Windows Surface. 💥 Throw back to the first mural job I ever did. I had only painted a few little “murals” on my own apartment wall and a good friend / event producer called me saying the vendor for the graphics in the event space had fallen through and they had nothing for the walls for their SXSW event 2 weeks later... She wanted me to come and paint a mural on the walls where the graphic was intended to go... I, of course, said YES (somewhat blindly) and agreed to painting this 30 ft wall. I had no idea how I would do it. I didn’t even know what supplies to use. “Fake it ‘til you make it” I kept telling myself as I frantically googled “how to make murals” trying to figure how to scale the art onto the wall and how to actually paint it... 2 weeks later I was in Austin, painting this wall, and did I mention it was LIVE? Yep... as I figured out how to be a muralist, people were just standing in this big room drinking champagne and watching me. Looking back it was kind of insane. I am still not sure how I did it but it took me a week to paint this wall... Things have changed a little now, but one thing is still the same: I always say YES to new things that fall into my lap -even if they are scary AF... So like I always say... just say YES... you never know where it will take you! ⚡️ #tbt #jasonnaylormural Art by Jason Naylor
