Suicide. Yes. It is a jarring word. And that’s why people fear using it, and thereby skirt the issue. Suicide is a very real issue, and one that is close to home for me having lost a sibling to suicide. But as a society, we can help raise awareness to mental health concerns and to the reality and prevalence of suicide just by saying the word. Just because a word represents something scary or misunderstood, does not mean we should sweep that word under the rug. Today’s @goodtype prompt for #goodtypetuesday is to bring awareness to a topic by lettering it. So here is my design for mental health awareness and suicide prevention. I designed these letters to appear sharp and a little hard to read, but with a little color to draw attention. I wanted the design to feel serious but impactful so I used white to maintain balance and a sense of peace. Regarding the issue, even allowing yourself to say the word can help. And there’s plenty more you can do too. Express love to those around as often as you can and remind people that they DO matter. Let’s all start there! πππ Thanks to @goodtype for this meaningful prompt, and if you want to discuss this further, please feel free to DM me. ——- #goodtypeartforgood #jasonnaylor Art by Jason Naylor
